Average of Fractions Calculator

Answer:
\[ Average = \frac{47}{48} \]Showing the work
To find the average add up the values and divide the sum by the number of values.

Rewriting all values as fractions, rewriting any negatives if necessary and, setting up as an addition problem\[ = \frac{1}{1}+ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{3}{4}+ \frac{9}{12}+ \frac{29}{8}+ \frac{-12}{16} \]The least common denominator (LCD) is: 48.

Rewriting as equivalent fractions with the LCD:\[ = \frac{48}{48}+ \frac{24}{48}+ \frac{36}{48}+ \frac{36}{48}+ \frac{174}{48}+ \frac{-36}{48} \]Rewriting numerators over the common denominator, and changing any addition of negatives to subtraction,\[ = \frac{48 + 24 + 36 + 36 + 174 - 36}{48} \]Totaling the numerator:\[ = \frac{282}{48} \]Reducing the fraction:\[ = \frac{47}{8} \]Dividing by the number of values: 6\[ \frac{47}{8} \div 6 = \frac{47}{8}\times \frac{1}{6}= \frac{47}{48} \]Average of the fractions is:\[ Average = \frac{47}{48} \]

Calculator Use

This calculator finds the average of a set of fractions by adding all of the fractions and dividing by the number of fractions in the set. Enter positive or negative fractions, integers and mixed numbers and the calculator converts inputs to fractions and calculates the average.

How to Find the Average of Fractions

Add up the fractions and divide the sum by the number of fractions.

To find the average of a set of fractions, integers, and mixed numbers convert the integers and mixed numbers to improper fractions, add all fractions, then divide the sum by the number of fractions as follows:

  1. Convert the integers and mixed numbers to improper fractions
  2. Set up an addition equation with the fractions and improper fractions
  3. Find the least common denominator (LCD) for the fractions
  4. Rewrite each of the fractions as equivalent fractions using the LCD
  5. Add the fractions: Add the numerators and put that sum over the LCD
  6. If you can, reduce this fraction
  7. Divide this fraction by the number of fractions, n, or multiply by 1/n.
  8. If you can, reduce and simplify this fraction which is the average of your fractions
