Use this Image Resize Calculator to calculate new image dimensions when resizing by width, height, scale percentage, or maximum dimension. The calculator finds new dimensions that maintain the original aspect ratio of your image so it's not distorted when you resize it.

Enter the original width and height of your image, choose your resize method, and enter your target value. The calculator computes the new dimensions, keeping the image width and height proportional to the original image size.

Resize an Image by Width

To resize an image when you know the width you need:

1. Select "New Width" in the Resize options
2. Enter the original width and height
3. Enter the new width you want
4. The calculator computes the new height using the scale factor: \( \frac{\text{new width}}{\text{original width}} \)

Formula

\[ \text{new height} = \text{original height} \times \frac{\text{new width}}{\text{original width}} \]

Resize an Image by Height

To resize an image when you know the height you need:

1. Select "New Height" in the Resize options
2. Enter the original width and height
3. Enter the new height you want
4. The calculator computes the new width using the scale factor: \( \frac{\text{new height}}{\text{original height}} \)

Resize an Image Scaling by a Percentage

To resize an image by scale %:

1. Select "Scale %" from the Resize options
2. Enter the original width and height
3. Enter the scaling percentage (e.g., 50 for 50%, 200 for 200%)
4. Width and height dimensions are scaled by the percentage

Resize an Image by Max Dimension

To resize an image so that neither width nor height exceeds a maximum value:

1. Select "Max Dimension" from the Resize options
2. Enter the original width and height
3. Enter the maximum allowed dimension
4. The calculator computes the new image dimension so the larger dimension equals your max value

Fractional Input

This calculator accepts fractional inputs which is useful when working in inches. You can enter mixed fractions like "8 1/2", "8-1/2", or decimals like "8.5".
